BC364

BC Series Modular Fibre Optic Interface System Multi-format Interface

Description

BC Series Modular Fibre Optic Interface System – Multi-format Interface  The BC364 is a compact rack-based multi-format converter for use with a wide range of broadcast video and audio signals. The BC364 provides a base unit that comprises input and output SFP cages. By using different SFP converter modules the functionality of the unit can be adapted to suit different applications. The signal input and output formats are defined by the selection of appropriate standard SFPs. This can be both in the form of an optical and/or electrical format conversion. The BC364 card offers a range of options including distribution, format conversion, monitoring and Wavelength Management including CWDM. Such a wide range of functionality allows the BC364 to act as a "toolkit" for Systems Engineers as well as a high quality converter for any fixed installation. Multi format SFPs include conversion to and from composite, HDMI, DVI, optical and 3G-SDI. Units can also be used for regenerating optical signals from multimode to singlemode or re-mapping wavelengths within existing fibre systems. See separate SFP documentation for the options available. The BC364 occupies a single slot in the BC100 3RU 19″ rack-mounting frame which can hold up to 15 single slot cards. The compact BC160 1RU is available for up to 6 cards. Signal and card monitoring is achieved via internal webpages, or over SNMP, via the BM102 network card. For stand-alone applications the BC364 can be housed in an individual rugged enclosure.

BC364 – Multi-format Interface – Wavelength Management

Example : Using the BC364 for Wavelength Management The BC364 is a compact rack-based multi-format converter for use with a wide range of broadcast video and audio signals. The BC364 provides a base unit that comprises input and output SFP cages. By using different SFP converter modules the functionality of the unit can be adapted to suit different applications. In the example here, the BC364 card provides a complete Wavelength Management facility by using CWDM. Using combinations of the BC364 allows multiple cameras to be deployed during an event and connected over a single SMPTE cable thus reducing rigging time. This solution is particularly compact and in the drawing below 4 cameras can be deployed over one cable but 8 or even 16 cameras is readily achievable. The BC364 and BC160i combination can also be used to ensure signals are available when the fibre count is reduced due to unforeseen circumstances e.g. damaged fibres unreported prior to arrival on-site. The BC160i is an extremely compact 1RU frame at less than 150 mm (excluding connectors) so is particularly attractive in any flyaway system. All key signal and card parameters can be remotely monitored via the optional BM102i network card. The system is easily expandable and cards can also be used in the 15 slot BC100i frame or stand-alone enclosures, BC101, BC102 and BC120.  The wavelength can be assigned from any within the standard ITU CWDM grid spacing. When used with the Shax and ShaxX units the system can be expanded to connect Sony Cameras and CCUs. The Shax units allow cameras and CCUs fitted with SMPTE connectors to be linked over a standard (often preinstalled) singlemode network. This can ease rigging and take advantage of a venue's pre-installed network. The ShaxX can be deployed to insert mains power into the SMPTE cable run to deliver power to the camera. For applications with other camera manufacturers please contact the Sales Office. Please see the following schematic to see an overview of a 4 Camera Sony system.

Example : Using the BC364 for Wavelength Management
One key benefit of the BC364 solution is the complete system modularity. The functionality above can also be integrated to sit alongside any of the BC Series cards and format converters within a larger system or frame. The key parameters of the cards and frames can accessed via the BM102i Network Monitoring Card. These parameters can be monitored manually via the in-built web server or remotely integrated into an SNMP Management System.

BC364 – Multi-format Interface – Local Drop & Monitoring

Example : Using the BC364 for Local Drop The BC364 is a compact rack-based multi-format converter for use with a wide range of broadcast video and audio signals. The BC364 provides a base unit that comprises input and output SFP cages. By using different SFP converter modules the functionality of the unit can be adapted to suit different applications. In the example here, the BC364 card can provide monitoring signal outputs from a fibre ring. Using an optical video transceiver in SFP1 (and no SFP2) the card provides an SDI video "drop" for local distribution. Alternatively SFP2 can be fitted with a multi-format SFP to provide an HDMI (or even Composite) output for local monitoring. Using an optical video transceiver in SFP1 and adding an optical dual channel transmitter in SFP2 the card provides both an SDI video "drop" for local monitoring and feeds for optical distribution. Signal and card monitoring is achieved through SNMP monitoring in the BM102i network card, or through the BM102i network monitoring webpages.

BC364 – Multi-format Interface – Ring Network & Drop

Example : Using the BC364 for Ring Network & Drop The BC364 is a compact rack-based multi-format converter for use with a wide range of broadcast video and audio signals. The BC364 provides a base unit that comprises input and output SFP cages. By using different SFP converter modules the functionality of the unit can be adapted to suit different applications. In the example here, the BC364 card can provide a way to create a duplex fibre ring. Using an optical video transceiver in SFP1 and SFP2 the card provides both a local 3G-SDI video "drop" for local monitoring and feeds for copper and optical distribution. Signal and card monitoring is achieved through SNMP monitoring in the BM102i network card, or through the BM102i network monitoring webpages.

BC364 – Multi-format Interface – Distribution & Switching

The BC364 is a compact rack-based multi-format converter for use with a wide range of broadcast video and audio signals. The BC364 provides a base unit that comprises input and output SFP cages. By using different SFP converter modules the functionality of the unit can be adapted to suit different applications. In the example here the BC364 card can provide optical and copper distribution as well as optical switching. Using a dual channel optical video receiver in SFP1 and dual channel optical video transmitter in SFP2 the card provides a changeover between two incoming fibre feeds. (Plus a local 3G-SDI video "drop" for local monitoring or distribution). Alternatively SFP2 can be fitted with a multi-format SFP to provide an HDMI (or even Composite) output for local monitoring and switching between 2 sources. Changeover can be achieved manually via a switch on the card’s panel or automatically based on the threshold of the low level warning flags in the SFP. It can also be achieved remotely via a switch or relay, in which case a number of BC364s in the same frame can be arranged to switch simultaneously. Signal and card monitoring is achieved through SNMP monitoring in the BM102i network card, or through the BM102i network monitoring webpages. For applications requiring remote control of the card please contact the Sales Office.
