Description
The BC390 is a flexible multi-format fibre optic interface designed for transporting 4K UHD and multi-rate SDI signals over a fibre link. Part of the Bluebell Opticom BC Series range, the card is fully compatible with all BC Series racks and enclosures and can be configured to operate as either an electrical-to-optical transmitter or an optical-to-electrical receiver, depending on system requirements.
The BC390 enables multiple SDI signals to be multiplexed onto a single optical wavelength for transmission and correspondingly demultiplexed at the receiving end, allowing efficient high-capacity signal transport over fibre. Electrical connectivity is provided via four 75Ω BNC connectors, while the optical interface uses an SFP carrier with dual LC connectors. CWDM wavelengths between 1270 and 1610 nm can be specified, with wideband optical reception supported.
Supporting HD, 3G, 6G, and 12G-SDI standards, the BC390 offers extensive inter-format conversion capability through multiple operating modes, enabling both upscaling and downscaling conversions. These include bypass operation up to 12G, as well as conversions between HD, 3G, 6G, and 12G formats such as single-to-dual, dual-to-quad, and quad-to-single signal mappings. Format conversion can be automatically selected via onboard signal detection or manually forced using DIP switches on the card.
When configured for transmission, the BC390 multiplexes SDI signals for optical transport; when configured for reception, it performs the corresponding mirror-image demultiplexing and format restoration. Card status and signal information are reported to the rack’s built-in monitoring system within BC100/BC100i (3RU) or BC160/BC160i (1RU) frames, with enhanced SNMP monitoring available via the optional BM102/BM102i network card. All required DC power is supplied by the host rack.
For field-deployable standalone solutions with additional features such as network monitoring and extra loop outputs, equivalent functionality is available in the BlueNano BN390 series.
