Cost has always been an issue when building a television studio, and one of the more expensive purchases are the cameras. A Studio Camera equipped with Program Video, Preview Video, Audio, Comms and Genlock with the ability to remotely rack are costly items. However, Studio Cameras share the same sensor as their more cost effective ENG Camera stablemates.

We were asked by a syndicated sports channel in the US to address just this. We came up with a camera-back product with V-Mount adaptors front and rear that converted ENG cameras into a studio cameras which proved to be a major cost saving across the whole camera fleet.

We multiplex all the signals to and from the camera, and using either SMPTE Hybrid fibre or Neutrik OpticalCON Hybrid fibre we bundle in enough power to drive the camera, light and even a prompter. This system has now been deployed successfully around the globe.

An ENG camera can be made to perform exactly like a studio camera with a big cost saving. And it looks pretty smart too!
