Description
| The BC-2 is a passive device designed to multiplex or demultiplex two optical wavelengths onto or from a single fibre optic cable. The BC-2 operates with 1310 nm and 1550 nm wavelengths on singlemode fibres, while the BC-2/M works with 850 nm and 1310 nm wavelengths on multimode networks. By utilising standard transmitters and receivers, the BC-2 offers a highly cost-effective solution for system designers seeking to increase network capacity through Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM). This approach is particularly valuable for legacy multimode networks where upgrading infrastructure may not be practical.
The device works by combining two separate wavelengths at the transmitting end using a WDM module. At the receiving end, a second module separates the two signals back into individual wavelengths. This method also supports bidirectional links, offering additional cost efficiency for system designers. The BC-2 is also compatible with CWDM networks, providing the ability to combine CWDM wavelengths for transport over a single fibre. The 1310 nm port supports wavelengths ranging from 1270 nm to 1410 nm, while the 1550 nm port supports wavelengths between 1470 nm and 1610 nm. For installation, the BC-2 can be housed in a rack-mounted frame or as a standalone unit. In a rack-mounted setup, it occupies a single slot in the BC100-3RU (15-slot) or BC160-1RU (6-slot) 19″ frame. For standalone applications, the BC-2 can be installed in rugged enclosures such as the BC101 (single-slot), BC102 (dual-slot), or BC120 (triple-slot), providing flexibility for diverse installation needs. For systems requiring additional capacity, the BC Series also includes the BC-4, (4-channel version) and BC-8 (8-channel version). |
